Donegal Volunteer Centre Joins National Network
Donegal Volunteer Centre became a member of the National Network of Volunteer Centres in Ireland at the end of 2007. The logo displayed is what you will see on the Volunteer Centre’s promotional material from now on and is similar to that used by the other centres in the country. These centres are funded through the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and the intention is that every county will have its own Volunteer Centre undertaking similar activities.
Like the other volunteer centres, the main purpose of the Donegal Volunteer Centre is to provide a placement service for potential volunteers with not-for-profit organisations registered with the Centre.
The Donegal Volunteer Centre also provides:
- Expertise on volunteering issues;
- Someone to speak with on the how, why and where of volunteering;
- A free and confidential service;
- Outreach and support to not-for-profit groups and organisations on volunteering issues;
- Specialist training services for voluntary organisations on all aspects of volunteer management.
If you would like to register as a volunteer or to register volunteer vacancies in your organisation or group, you can do this by accessing the register to volunteer or register a vacancy through this page. If you would prefer to do this by phone or in a face to face contact, please phone Sandra McGeever on 086 8117157.
New Premises
The Donegal Volunteer Centre will soon mark another step in its journey to establish itself as an integral part of Donegal volunteering by moving to its own premises. The new offices will be above Tobin’s Filling Station on the Port (Derry) Road. These purpose built offices will be available for volunteers and groups involving volunteers to visit and meet with either of the two staff members. It is hoped that the move to these new offices will be completed by early April. Watch this spot for more information as it comes in!
Moving Forward
The Donegal Volunteer Centre is now fully operational with the Manager, Colleen Boyle, and the Placement Officer, Sandra McGeever working in the Centre. Sandra focuses on finding placements with voluntary and community groups who have registered volunteer vacancies with the
Centre and in encouraging more volunteers and groups to register with the Centre. Colleen is responsible for the overall management and development of the Centre with a particular emphasis on supporting groups around their volunteer management needs.
Sandra can be contacted on 0868117157 and Colleen on 086 8257549.
Recruiting Volunteers
The Manager of the Donegal Volunteer Centre is currently working with Inishowen Women’s Outreach in the recruitment of volunteers for the vital service they offer. There was a very positive response to a recent recruitment process by Inishowen Women’s Outreach. Colleen Boyle, the Centre Manager is now supporting the Manager of IWO, Mary Doherty in other aspects of the volunteer management process. Colleen commended IWO on their professional but welcoming approach to women expressing interest in volunteering with the service. She said that IWO were developing a high standard of volunteer management practice that would offer a good model for other groups.
