Thinking of Volunteering

Do You Have A Dream?

Volunteering can be defined as the commitment of time and energy, for the benefit of society, local communities and individuals. It is a unique expression of active citizenship which can empower people to fulfil their potential, while contributing to positive social and environmental change. The value of volunteering is universally recognised.
Volunteering can be a satisfying undertaking for many reasons as people who volunteer their time will testify.

The reasons people volunteer are as rich and varied as the people themselves and include: wanting to give something back to their community; being asked to volunteer by a friend or neighbour; wanting to get more involved in their community; to build up experience that will help in securing paid employment; to build self-esteem and confidence; having a passion and belief around a particular issue, and many others.

Volunteers are involved in many different areas of our community, many of them going largely unnoticed, but there is no doubt that they make a vital contribution to all aspects of community life.

If you would like to become a volunteer and would like support in doing this, please contact us at 07491 27056 and or complete our registration form by clicking on register to volunteer and we will then make contact with you.

Am I ready to Volunteer?

So how do you know if you are ready to become a volunteer? Well, the fact is that all of us have the capacity to undertake voluntary activities, regardless of age, political persuasion, ethnicity, religious beliefs or other commitments. You are ready to become a volunteer if you have the desire to help and assist others within your community and local area, and a desire to make a positive change for future generations. Many of the world’s most inspirational leaders and volunteers started out with a simple desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Martin Luther King Jr., Mahatma Ghandi, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Nelson Mandela, well recognised volunteers in the public domain, started out as humble volunteers with the simple desire to make a change in the lives of others. From humble beginnings each of these volunteers revolutionised the lives of others through their positive social ideals and attitudes. Within every community we believe there are people with similar inspiring abilities, characteristics and talents. Put quite simply if you can answer yes to any of the following questions then you are one of these people.

  • I want to make a difference in my local area
  • I want to improve the quality of life of people in my community
  • I have skills and knowledge to share
  • I have talents and abilities that will be of benefit to others
  • I have only a few hours per week to spare
  • I want to get to know people in my community
  • I want to develop skills and interests for my C.V.
